Typeface

The role that typeface plays in conveying a message is that it allows the writer to give the feeling of what is written before the reader reads it. What I mean is that the typeface gives the reader an idea of the emotions that the text will try to convey. If what the writer is writing is something serious, then it wouldn’t be a good idea to write it in a silly font because when the reader sees that font they would be expecting a silly story.

Some examples of how Text can be used are

In the first picture there is a good use of the font Comic Sans because the show is a cartoon and it is very comical. In the second image there is a very bad use of Comic Sans because what they are saying is something serious and not very comical.

For the first logo the font works because helvetica is very neutral and serious and the company is a pretty serious company. By using this font they probably also wanted to give the feeling that they are very trustworthy. The Microsoft logo also works with the font because the helvetica makes it seem responsible and simple. This would help the company because the people who have Microsoft would feel like the Microsoft isn’t very complicated because that is the feeling that they would get from the logo.

What The World Eats

What caught my attention about this photo essay was that I was interested in seeing everything that families all over the world ate. I thought that seeing what the families ate would give me an idea of what their life is like. The theme of the photo essay is giving an idea of what people eat all around the world and the price of the food they buy. When you can see what they eat and how much it costs them, it gives you an idea of what the economy is like in that part of the world. There is one picture of a family in Japan and you can see a lot of fish, vegetables, there is some fruit, and then there is a lot of other stuff in packages. I think this shows that in Japan they buy a lot of things that are already packaged that way they have more time to do other stuff they need to do. There is one picture of one family in Chad and you can see a couple of bags of some kind of grain, some other smaller bags of dried stuff, and one big water bottle. This picture shows us how bad it is in Africa because they eat so little compared to people in America, Japan, or even Kuwait. There is also a picture of an American family and you can see a bunch of pizza, McDonald’s, Burger King, and lots of other meats and canned food. I think this picture was added to show how good people in America have it, especially compared to the family in Chad.

Boris Yeltsin dancing at Rock concert

This picture is was taken by Alexander Zemlianichenko. In the image, Russian president Boris Yeltsin is dancing at a rock concert in Rostov before elections. According to some people he was drunk and just got up and started dancing then grabbed a baton and conducted the brass band while singing, dancing and blowing kisses to the audience. Other people also say that he did this to prove to everyone that he still had energy and was capable of being president again.

Rebel Without A Cause

In Rebel Without A Cause, the acting was very good. I only noticed one little screw up but since it was a rehearsal that was no big deal. The screw up was that this one guy got up at the wrong moment when the girl was telling Jim that she loved him but I didn’t think it was such a big deal. The actors expressed emotions very well. I thought that the way they set up the stage was awesome. I really liked the part where they were at the abandoned house because the set up was good and the emotions were really well expressed. You could see what the cops were seeing in the background so the viewers wouldn’t be left wondering what they are seeing and I just thought that that was a really clever way to set up the stage. I wish all the characters luck in their competition and they all did very well in rehearsal.

What Irritates Me

What really irritates me is how quickly little kids are growing up these days or in other words how quickly they are learning to cuss and about all those inappropriate things that you learn in middle school. I have heard three year olds that cuss like crazy and they just leave me all surprised and a bit disgusted. A few weeks ago I went to the park and my cousin was there with her younger siblings, a little 3 year old boy and a 5 year old girl. When we were sitting around eating chips the little boy starts going off saying bad words and he just left me with my mouth open and thinking “What in the world are they teaching him?” This kind of stuff is probably more of a big deal to me because I have grown up in a home where no one dares utter the word “stupid” unless they want a slap in the mouth or a scolding from mom or dad. What also leaves me crazed is how even 4 year olds are talking about dating. Then we also have some 3rd graders who now about sex. There are other stuff that I am okay with like my little 2 year old sister knowing how to use a DS (even though it really annoys everyone how she hogs it). Does anyone else think that little kids are growing up just a little too fast?

In fact, the worst thing a designer can hear is an offhand “Just do whatever you want.”

What this quote means is that a designer never wants to hear ”Just do whatever you want.” because they don’t have any limitations. Limitations allow the designer’s creativity to flourish because when you don’t have any limitations, you don’t know what people want to see. When you do have limitations you can see what people want from you but you can be very creative with what you have. Finding ways to make something amazing out of the few resources that you have takes a lot of creativity.

This represents my life because right now I'm digging through high school to get to college. So, high school would be the dirt that I'm digging through but a good college or university will be my buried treasure.

Attack and Progress

So my plan of attack for the interview is to just ask my uncle for an interview with him. I think that what I’ll have to do is have the interview at my home since he comes over a lot (to drop his daughter off). I’ll just tell him when I want to do the interview and make sure that that’s okay with him. I think I’ll record the interview with my mp3 instead of my cellphone because the mp3 seems to be able to record sounds that might be to soft for my cellphone to record. I’ll ask him questions about the how it was running the restaurant and what happened that ended up making them quit on the restaurant (my mom couldn’t explain that to me).

What I want to Learn in E-zine is…

The things that I would really like to learn in E-zine are mainly writing skills and how to use all the software that we have for the magazine. I’ve never really been good with writing so it is something that I really really really want to improve on. I guess I’m pretty good with design ( I really like art and stuff like that). I would say that I have a good imagination when it comes to writing stories but when I try to put the story down on paper I just ruin the story. I WANT TO IMPROVE MY WRITING SKILLS!!!!!

This blog will help me reflect on how my day has gone and communicate with others about things that I was thinking about. I could talk about things that I like, for example, a book that I liked, a song that I heard, or a movie that I found interesting. Then I could read about what people thought whenever they comment on what I wrote. I think that I would like to have a pretty big audience because that way I could hear a lot of different opinions.
